Rob Wilson

You might say that what is important to Rob Wilson changes with the wind. That's because Rob says "the most important part of his job changes everyday depending on the weather. Some days it's important to teach viewers a little about the weather, other days it's important to make sure they are informed about weather that could affect their lives or endanger their family." One thing that is always important to Rob is accuracy. Rob says, "I want to give the most accurate forecast possible EVERY day!"

Rob Wilson was born near San Francisco and raised in Portland, Oregon. He attended the University of Arizona where he received a degree in Atmospheric Sciences. Rob attended U of A, on an Air Force ROTC scholarship, so when he graduated he earned a commission in the Air Force as an officer. Rob was first bitten by the television bug while he was stationed in Panama City, Florida at Tyndall AFB.  There he worked as the weekend meteorologist for WJHG.  From then on he had been "itching" to get into broadcasting full-time. Rob transitioned from active-duty to the reserves in April of 2000 when he came to WICU to become the chief meteorologist.  He completed his service to the military in October 2005.

Rob is married to Maggie, a Meadville native.  They now have two children; daughter Mya, and son Dashel.  They love hanging out at one of Erie's favorite spots.  "We love spending time at Presque Isle. That's where we had our first date and where we got married."

Two things Rob thinks you might be surprised to know about him are that he played the trombone in marching bands from middle school through his first two years in college, and that he can recite lines from almost every movie he's ever seen. Editor's note: He can and does recite every line, word for word!

Rob has also earned the American Meteorological Society's Seal of Approval.  This is quite an accomplishment in the broadcast meteorology arena.  The AMS has basically said that Rob meets their stringent requirements as to quality of broadcast presentation and content and thus can display their emblem.

Catch Rob's WICU 12News FutureTrack forecasts every weeknight on 12News at 5, 5:30, 6 & 11, Weather coverage you can count on!
