He says he ran for County Council to stop the large amount of taxes he claims are being forced upon Erie County residents by government. He also says, despite reports to the contrary, he is a staunch supporter of the Constitution.
"The government should be protecting property rights and they are raising taxes," said Beeman.
Beeman ran as a Republican. He beat Democrat Gerald Price and write-in campaign council candidate incumbent David Mitchell who jumped back into the race after Beeman announced his candidacy. Beeman was not supported by the Republican Party.
"As we stated in the past we don't agree with his views on government. He's technically not a Republican even though he's registered now as one he's been a libertarian," Said Erie County Republican Party Chairman Brad Moore.
According to reports, the IRS has filed liens against Beeman in court. He is said to owe some 2 million dollars in unpaid taxes. Beeman answered that claim by suing the IRS for 7 million dollars. Its still pending in court.
Some members of County Council are questioning Beeman's intentions and ideas they have heard about in the news media. Among some of his platforms and ideas that have raised eyebrows include selling the Tullio Arena and eliminating some state mandated county services.
"He's been elected fine, we'll listen. We just have to take it from there. I mean some of his ideas are way off the wall," said Erie County Council Chairman Whitey Cleaver.
Last Month, Beeman was pulled over by Police. He received 5 charges including driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, and no insurance.
