Former Erie Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim Barker is talking for the first time about his new job as head of the Pennsylvania Digital Learning Network. Barker spoke this afternoon at Erie's Jefferson Educational Society about his 17 years as superintendent, as well as his new job. He said a federal grant and corporate contributions will fund pilot programs in 10-12 school districts in Pennsylvania, including Erie. The goal is providing more courses and more individualized learning, using new technology. Barker said a key benefit is the technology will give students 24 hour access to tutors, support and updated information. He said, "I think we are on the cusp of what they call the learning revolution. I think it is coming to Erie and Pennsylvania with this federal grant."
