Construction of the super Wal-Mart in Summit Township is moving into it's final phase, with the focus shifting to a nearby road project. At the main complex crews are starting to pave the parking lot. Meanwhile, heavy equipment is now re-configuring Commons Drive, which runs parallel to Peach Street. It is supposed to keep some of the increased traffic away from congested Peach Street. The township says it has to be done, before Wal-Mart can open. Summit Township Zoning Administrator Nancy Agostine said, "If you can't handle the traffic then it is a safety issue. The board's primary concern is the safety of the traveling public. And that is why they have been very clear this is necessary to handle that traffic." Originally the store was scheduled to open in August. But Summit Township officials think a September opening is more likely.
