Erie Police have charged a local man with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend overnight. The suspect is 35 year old Mark Anthony Warner. Police took him to the Erie County Prison Sunday evening after he was arraigned on charges of criminal homicide, aggravated assault, endangering other and possessing an instrument of crime.
It happened around 4 a.m. Sunday.
According to neighbors, the woman, whose name has not yet been released, was arguing with her boyfriend outside their home at 523 West 17th Street.
Apparently she was threatening to break-up with him.
That's when neighbors say the man shot her.
They say he then drove away from the scene.
Police arrested the suspect in Cambridge Springs, and he is currently behind bars.
The victim's family says they are shocked by the crime.
"This morning when I woke up I was in shock I couldn't even pick my son up out the playpen because I was so upset and mad and I didn't want to drop him," said the victim's sister, Tracey Ziegler.
An autopsy was performed on the victim Sunday. Erie County Coroner, Lyell Cook says the woman died of a single gunshot wound.
